You need to know what size your curtains are, without any pocket, and then adds the measurement for the new pocket later, once you install the new curtain rods and measured.

Measure the rod pocket curtains, Measure between the first set of pins, verification that the tape is straight. If it is not, the pins are not parallel. Move one of the pins so that the first set of pins is parallel and remeasured. Move to the second set of bolts and repeat the measurement process. Verify that the two measures are identical. If desired, remove the curtains of the bars, place on a flat surface and measure the width of the curtains as well. Do not use pins, but measuring edge to edge in several places until you have two identical measurements and tape measure exactly straight.
